The Stiner Brothers Fight with Filmmaking

The Further Exploits of Jes & Wilson Stiner
WHAT I’M WATCHING 2012
GALAXY QUEST - DEAN PARISOT: Sci-Fi/Comedies are tough. There aren’t that many that really work. Galaxy Quest is a stretch, but it works. It pushes the audience’s tolerance for suspending our disbelief, but not too the point that we check out entirely. It also incorporates a Show-Biz genre storyline as well. I have to assume that part of it, along with the rising popularity of Comic-Con, made the studio’s eyebrows go up. There’s a decent amount of heart in the movie. The creature design, by Stan Winston, is superb as always. Justin Long gives the third act some good juice. Alan Rickman and Sigourney Weaver “support” Tim Allen, but in actuality, Allen wouldn’t have been able to hold this movie without those two. Tim Allen and William Shatner have more in common than either would like to admit. If you’re a trecky I highly recommend it.
